HTTP got it in its name HyperText transfer protocol is a transfer protocol also known as fetch.

This article explains how a transfer of a resource happens via HTTP.

Steps

• A user-agent (browser, application) sends a request to a http server
• the http server responds back with a response that encapsulates/contains a resource, where:
  • the body contains the content of the resources
  • the content type contains the type of resource (ie HTML, image, …)
  • and more.
• the user-agent (browser, application) parses the response and recreate the resource
• the user-agent (browser, application) can then:
  • cache it
  • and/or saved it as file
