1 - About

An entity instance is a single occurrence of an entity.

Instance means:

  • In a database model, a row where the Primary Key identifies a single instance
  • in Mathematics, a tuple.
  • in Statistics, a unit, an observation
  • in Olap, a member
  • In dynamic language, a struct or a class.

In a database environment, an entity is commonly implemented by a table and an instance by a row. An orphan instance is one that does not have a corresponding existing parent record.
