A channel is a device that conveys a digital bit stream, from:

  • one or several senders (or transmitters)
  • to one or several receivers.

The term channel has two different meanings

  1. the whole medium that carries a signal between the transmitter and the receiver.
  2. or a subdivision of this medium in order to send multiple streams of information simultaneously (wiki/Multiplexing)
