Essbase - Architecture/Components

Figure below provides a high-level view of the information flow between the three tiers of the Essbase architecture :

• The client tier (on the left)
• The middle tier (in the center)
• The database tier (on the right)

The client tier includes Essbase Server clients, such as :

• Essbase - Smart View for Office, Fusion Edition,
• Essbase - Administration Services Console
• Essbase - Studio
• Essbase - Spreadsheet Add-in
• Essbase - Visual Explorer
• Essbase - Data Mining
• Essbase Integration Service Console
• Essbase - Application Programming Interface (API)
• EPM System Lifecycle Management
• Developer Products
• Oracle Hyperion - Smart Search, Fusion Edition.
• ...

The middle tier includes services, such as :

• Provider Services
• Essbase - Integration Services (EIS)
• and Essbase - Administration Service (EAS).

The database tier is made up of Essbase - Servers.

• Communication between the client and middle tiers, and the middle and database tiers, is through HTTP.
• Communication between the client and database tiers is through TCP/IP or HTTP.
• Communication between data sources and the metadata catalog with the middle and database tiers is through ODBC and JDBC drivers.
